Interior Designer EDIT: Away But At Home

By Miriam Scullion

Interior Designer Edit: Away But At Home
the blues reflect those bright Mediterranean skies and crystal water of a poolside. The whites and natural materials remind us of the whitewashed homes by the sea, the canvas of a sun shade at lunch and the sand beneath our toes.

Bringing something of that holiday feel to our own homes is so important, especially when we can’t actually get away on holiday. Using colours, texture and creating atmosphere is an amazing way to recreate holiday memories in your own garden or outdoor space. Here the blues reflect those bright Mediterranean skies and crystal water of a poolside. The whites and natural materials remind us of the whitewashed homes by the sea, the canvas of a sun shade at lunch and the sand beneath our toes. Through pops of colour and pattern, bring to life that vibrant fresh food usually eaten alfresco late in the evening. Comfy seating and a swing chair or hammock provides the ultimate relaxation. Finally, to remind us of the glow of the setting sun and that holiday atmosphere, add lanterns and candles. Whether you have a large garden, a small patio or just a balcony, you can create a little bit of holiday paradise at home.

Miriam Scullion

Miriam is an interior designer who loves to create ‘liveable’ homes where functionality and style can co-exist. Creative and unique ideas are cornerstones of her interior design inspirations, and she is driven to find solutions to the unique needs of each homeowner she works with. She loves marrying old and new, bringing personality into a space and believes strongly in the importance of focusing on those small details. Her style is a mix of vintage modern with global and boho inspirations and nearly always a touch of dark green (her favourite colour). Miriam speaks about what inspires her about interior design: "The challenge of working with, not against, each different house is what drives me. You have to understand, not only what works with the bricks and mortar but those who live there too. Our homes have a story to tell. If you ask each person what their dream décor is, each answer will be different, that’s the beauty of interior design. When designing your home, you have the chance to create a distinctively personal space full of your memories and character."
